About Us

The Devon Western Riding Club was formed in 2001 in response to the growing number of western riding enthusiasts in the South West. There are around ninety members from the tip of Cornwall to Dorset

The objects of the club are primarily to promote western riding and to encourage those riders who enjoy any or all aspects of western horsemanship

The club is affiliated with the British Riding Clubs movement and we believe this integration is an important part of 'spreading the word' about western riding.

We try to cater for each member's interests whether they are competitive or not. Non-riding members are also encouraged. Activities range from shows and clinics to stud visits and social evenings.

At shows we offer a whole range of western classes including pleasure, trail, horsemanship, reining and showmanship but also run halter, in-hand trail and versatility ranch horse trail classes.

Training the western horse is about developing a true working partnership with the goal being to ride a relaxed and calm horse, capable of showing and trail riding and indeed any activity that you might like to take part in.
